Chichester's Historic Quarter

Established over 2000 years ago by the Romans, the market town of Noviomagus Reginorum eventually became known by the name we’re familiar with now – Chichester.

As part of its defences, the Romans built a stone wall to encircle the city. Despite a troubled past, the walls survive to this day and this part of the website will look inside the south-west quadrant contained within those walls – the Cathedral’s Historic Quarter.
